Bone metastases are one of the most common sites of metastases, particularly in prostate and breast cancer patients . The prevalence of bony metastases seems to be rising due to a combination of factors including increased incidence of cancer due to longer survival and improved systemic treatment resulting in improved overall survival of cancer patients ( 2 ).
Metastatic breast carcinoma produces lytic or mixed lytic-sclerotic lesions which often become sclerotic after successful local or systemic therapy (2). Survey radiogra- phy of the skull, chest, spine, and pelvis will detect at least 90 per cent of radiologically overt skeletal metasta- ses from breast cancer (67).

Despite the role of the osteoclasts in this process, the outcome is due in large part to the impact of cancer cells directly and indirectly on osteoblasts. Induction of aberrant osteoclastogenesis is only part of the equation. Metastatic breast cancer is breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast and nearby lymph nodes to other parts of the body (most often the bones, lungs, liver or brain). Metastatic breast cancer is not a specific type of breast cancer, it’s the most advanced stage of breast cancer.

She was further investigated following a clinical diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. A bone scan showed multiple lytic areas in the ribs, and a computed tomography (CT) scan of head revealed parenchymal cystic areas in the brain ( Figure ), suggesting that brain metastasis were responsible for her seizures. Metastatic breast cancer is a rare diagnosis in the head and neck, yet metastatic disease from an infraclavicular primary deserves inclusion on any comprehensive differential diagnosis list. In women, breast carcinoma is the most common infraclavicular primary to metastasize to the head and neck. Lytic bone metastases are due to a variety of primary tumors, and are more common than sclerotic metastases (although many may occasionally have mixed lytic and sclerotic components). They include 1: thyroid cancer; renal cell cancer; adrenocortical carcinoma and pheochromocytoma; endometrial carcinoma; gastrointestinal carcinomas; Wilms tumor; Ewing sarcoma Bone is the most common site of distant metastases from breast carcinoma. The presence of bone metastases affects a patient's prognosis, quality of life, and the planning of their treatment.

In fact, bone lesions with mixed osteoblast and osteoclast properties are present in 10–20% patients with advanced breast cancer (Suva et al., 2011). Despite advances in adjuvant therapy for breast cancer, bone remains the most common site of recurrence.
The aggressive lytic phenotype of breast cancer bone metastasis has resulted in therapies that primarily target osteoclastic bone resorption, such as the
Breast cancer is one of several malignancies that can result in bone metastases that are either osteolytic or osteoblastic. Although most lesions are mixed, with some combination of lytic and blastic components, some lesions are purely lytic or blastic, and these lesions can pose difficulties for imaging.
